sensitivity reading

Are you looking for a conscientious, hands-on sensitivity reader? I might be what you’re looking for.

I can provide sensitivity reads on the following topics:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder/Asperger’s Syndrome
  • Seizure disorders (e.g. epilepsy, non epileptic attack disorder, vasovagal syncope)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome
  • Non binary gender identity
  • Avoiding cisnormative language

As standard, I provide the following to all clients:

  1. Written report about the manuscript with a focus on the sensitivity read, including suggestions of what to include or develop
  2. Annotated word document to highlight areas mentioned in report
  3. Skype/Facetime calls to discuss the work
  4. Contract with NDA

In addition, I can also work with authors closely to develop their characters or ideas further. I am also happy to provide wider manuscript suggestions on request, though broader editorial assistance may require a higher fee.

I’m happy to work on all areas of fiction, including YA and children’s fiction.

Why me?

I’m a writer and editor based in London with a few different hats. In 2017, I set up a small publishing press with a few friends calledĀ 3 of Cups Press, and our second book is almost wrapped up. There I edit a range of short fiction, essays, and creative non-fiction; our first two books have focussed on anxiety and bodily experiences, which, in terms of what I’ve been editing, has mostly been in the realm of dysphoria and disability.
I also am editing an anthology of autistic people’s writing for publisher Unbound, currently in the crowdfunding stage but I’m already working on both collaborative pitches with new authors and developing ideas with those I’ve already commissioned. I’m quite a hands on editor!
Equally I’m also a writer, working on my first YA series and trying to keep the other books at bay. Prior to this I have quite a bizarre career history working as a marine biologist, a children’s bookseller and a comms specialist for a number of charities in London. I’m also a book blogger who primarily focusses on young adult and children’s literature.

I’m a competent and involved editor who will give both constructive criticism and positivity!
